25 ft lbs of torque isnt much more, considering most jeeps are lighter than the chevy’s with the 4.3. plus the 4.0 delivers the torque at much lower rpms than the 4.3. And i dont know where you are getting your reliability information from. the 4.0 is VERY reliable. These things can run for 3 to 400k miles. i would like to see a 4.3 do that.

4.3’s are more reliable and have more torque than a 4.0

@erikhoeffner the jeep got marginal because of poor protection to both legs…

Yeah and most of the measurements on the explore were head and neck and the jeep was all foot pretty much? I thought the head was the important factor?

@superduck714 Yeah… The 700R4 / 4L60 / 4L60E and I also believe the 4L65E …. Not too sure about that one… On the 700’s’… If you get a beefier than GM sunshell and a Z Pak…. You will have a much better 700 than GM could dream of… But yeah… I love American vehicles… Besides… All vehicles are junk when you step back and look… So I just go with American… Plus Chevy is the best when it comes to interchange…. At least for me…

Hey man, Good to hear your van lasted that long. Love American cars, they go forever. oh, btw, didnt know they put tha 700r4s behind those vans. decent.

@superduck714 I don’t know…. I just know that I have a 90 model Astrovan with a 4.3…. The engine didn’t start puffing blowby until it hit around the 280,000 mile mark… Which is machined and rebuilt now… Of course the TH700R4 took two shits during that 280,000 mile run…. It makes good power… Not a powerhouse but I still trust the engine…

the 4.3 seems to last a long time, but doesnt really have the power or anything else that say a jeep 4.0 has. idk. my 2 cents.

there is more to it than just apearance. There are body injury measurement sensors all over the body. Those also determine final rating.

The fuck? How did jeep get marginal and the explorer acceptable? the structure started collapsing on the explorer and the door opened

@bajabusta I just so happen to have nothing but GM vehicles. They all have super nice smooth running engines. They are all fairly stock rebuilds. A 383, a 350, a 4.3 liter V6 and a 5.3 liter. The transmissions though and the vehicles are Junk. I still like them. That is why I drive them. My point is that all vehicles are junk. Ford seems to make a better truck… Frame and body only. The engines and transmissions. Junk. The Chevy smallblock is the best engine ever made. GM did that right… only

perception issues? I only own GM products and they are still fine, engine AND body, did you know that GM designed the transmission that was used in the initial BMW X5? GM has always had great smooth transmission. NOt sure where you are getting your perceptions from but that is all they are. Perceptions. Have you ever owned one? Try changing your opinion to fit the facts, quit changing the facts to fit your opinion. People like you make me want to disable comments. You have zero merrit.

But Honda is not bankrupt. So why would you have said honda. Plus that was not a honda desigh it was a Isuzu design with honda badges. learn more about cars before saying anything!

@bajabusta Then I need to look for my next GM there… I like them… Parts are easy to interchange and everyone knows where to find any part you need… The smallblock and the interchange are their best points…

depends on where you live. GM cars dont rust here in seattle. We do NOT use salt in the winter.

@dave777blaster Yeah… I forgot about the I6 engines… I like some of the older GM cars and trucks… They made some good looking vehicles… They always rust toooooo fast….. They always need a restoration after just 10 years…. Their frames are floppy… They also need work done to make them stronger…

They make decent I6 v6 V 8 engines
4cyl engines are no good from GM

Ford has some solid products
Chrysler too

I havn’t checked out GM cars lately last I checked they were not too good.

@dave777blaster GM should have just made engines… Their vehicles are pieces of shit…. They will fall apart around the engine while it’s running… Their transmissions suck too… Really when you get down to it… The smallblock V8, the bigblock V8 and 4.3 liter V6 are the only things they got right…
