Chaka’s effort to belt-out her vocals with Etta and Gladys just fell a little short. These two women (E &G) have that natural growl that come with deep, deep soulful experience. Chaka is good, but this was not her genre.

its good that music serves all kind of styles.everybody have the right to say yes i like it or no i mislike it. it would be a terrible world if one have not the right to say what he means… and in some countries this situation has already occured. so lets enjoy YT, here nearly all meanings are free… always at this side …

@chickenandbaconclub i concur!! Chaka channels the fiery energy into the trio! Gladys was smooth as liquid and Etta was earthy…great elements combined!

Chaka doesn’t always sing like that, she wouldn’t be where she is today if she couldn’t vary it. But this is a live performance and that’s what she felt like doing. The audience were feeling it and I’m sure a lot of viewers are too. Besides it made a good contrast; Gladys’s smooth style, Chaka’s cry and Etta’s rough and aggressive tone…just my opinion.

hate to break it to you, but that ain’t musselwhite. it’s paul butterfield, and sadly this is his last recorded performance. it’s from a video called BB King and Friends filmed in 1987. i own it on VHS from back in the day. don’t know if it’s on dvd still in print anywhere but if you can find it, pick it up!

chaka is only crying and not singing, but the “old” ladies are showing her how one can transport feeling and must not crying the whole time through. a song is a song and a song means not cry the whole time but only my opition. i perhaps do not know much about because i am only a singer and not a cryer…

@anonymous973 If anything, Kenan looks like B.B. King. But check out some of B.B.’s picutres from his younger years. He wasn’t husky like Kenan. Not that there is anything wrong with husky.

she’s not outclassed by any means…in fact,,,Chaka ELEVATED the whole thang to another level with her fiery raw vocals,,even in that condition!!! better recognize!!
