North & South ending / train station scene (edited)

SPOILER ALERT! This is the final scene of BBC North & South, featuring the famous kiss, but without the Henry Lennox character. If you don’t want to know the ending, don’t watch! Dialogue: Thornton: Where are you going? Margaret: To London. I’ve been to Milton. Thornton: You’ll not guess where I’ve been. *hands her the rose* Margaret: To Helstone? I thought those had all gone! Thornton: I found it in the hedgerow. You have to look hard. *pause* Why were you in Milton? Margaret: On business. That is, I have a business proposition. Oh dear, I need Henry to help me explain. Thornton: *stops her* You don’t need Henry to explain. *they sit down* Margaret: I have to get this right. It’s a business proposition. I have some 15000 pounds. It’s lying in the bank at present, earning very little interest. Now, my financial advisors tell me that if you were to take this money and use it to run Marlborough Mills, you could give me a very much better rate of interest. So you see, it is only a business matter. You would not be obilged to me in any way. It is you who would be doing me the service. *THE KISS* Speaker: London train about to depart. London train about to depart. *Margeret leaves, then returns* Thornton: Coming home with me?

Thanks so much for editing Henry out. It makes the scene more special with just John and Margaret : )

LOOOOVE this ending. Gah. Richard Armitage is just… words fail me. The look in his eyes… He’s just the perfect romantic lead. *faint*

That is one of the lushest kisses I have seen to date, and I don’t mind admitting I feel rather flushed *sigh*

Thank you for posting. Much better without Henry. The train station is busy enough.
In an interview, Richard Armitage said that the thought of the final scene made him still tingle. :-)
Same here.
I would have like to see how both would have acted the final scene in the book,
‘His voice was hoarse, and trembling with tender passion, as he said, ‘Margaret”‘ Then, Margaret putting her head on his shoulders…

So much power in this scene in both versions. Great story writing, great acting.

it is…but edited a bit. I removed a character from this scene so the focus would be entirely on John & Margaret
